On Saturday, August 22, from 9am – 2pm, St. Mark’s will be hosting a workshop featuring award-winning author and advocate Jamie Breusehoff. Rooted in her queer identity, her experiences raising a transgender child, and over two decades of working with youth and families, Jamie brings clarity, compassion, and hope to conversations often marked by fear and misinformation. She is author of the book Raising Kids beyond the Binary: Celebrating God’s Transgender and Gender-Diverse Children.
Jamie’s workshop will help us all with becoming more open, compassionate, and inclusive faith communities. Here’s a description of the topics she will be covering:
From Welcome to Witness: Supporting LGBTQIA+ People in Today’s World
What does it mean to move beyond simply saying “all are welcome” and actively cultivate belonging, safety, and dignity for LGBTQIA+ people? This workshop explores how faith calls us to create more inclusive congregations, foster understanding across differences, and respond compassionately to the challenges facing LGBTQIA+ communities today. Together, we’ll examine practical ways to make our churches and communities more welcoming, supportive, and affirming, while exploring how people of faith can serve as advocates, allies, and witnesses to God’s love in the world.
