WELCA has sponsored a Health Kit drive for several years and 2026 is no different. Health Care Kits are assembled and delivered along with quilts to Lutheran World Relief. This year St. Mark’s WELCA is assembling the kits on Tuesday, August 18 from 4-6 pm at St. Mark’s. Anyone interested in helping assemble kits can come to the Fellowship Hall for a drop-in “Brown Bag Dinner” and kit assembly meeting. Bring your dinner and be ready to assemble health kits. Assembled kits will be delivered to LWR along with quilts to be distributed throughout the world to needy families. Items to be included can be brought to the donation bin in Communication Central before August 18 or, if helping to assemble, bring the items at that time.

WELCA is also sponsoring Mom Bags, which consist of toiletries for delivery to Manna House. This project takes place around Thanksgiving, but you can bring any unused toiletries in a bag, refurbished purse or container designed for women who have nothing to use before that time.

Three circles meet throughout the year. Martha Circle on the second Thursday of the month at 1 p.m. in Room 8; Ruth Circle on the second Wednesday of the month at 10 a.m. in Room 8, and Deborah Circle at 9 a.m. at City Center Cafe for breakfast and fellowship. If you are interested in forming a circle which meets at a more convenient time to your group, decide on a time and day. Start meeting. Let the WELCA board know so you can be added to the SE Synod WELCA system.

The Synod WELCA Convention is scheduled for September 11-13, 2026 in Chattanooga TN. Registration is online HERE. The convention is open to all Synod members. St. Mark’s has a voting member who will attend, and others who are interested in attending. Huntsville hosted the convention two years ago. If you attended the convention here you know how fun and uplifting this experience can be. This is a chance to have fellowship and stewardship with other Lutheran women throughout Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia. Early registration rates are available so check the website for details. There is a sign-up sheet posted in Communication Central if anyone wants to carpool.
