“WELCA Circles Plan for Fall Events While Continuing to Meet During the Summer Months”
The fall brings several exciting activities. The Synod WELCA Convention is held. This year it will be in Chattanooga TN. St. Mark’s will be sending representation from the WELCA Board. If you are interested in being part of the St. Mark contingency, contact Kathleen Corpus for information.
There will be several stewardship and love offering opportunities at convention. This year there will be support for “Room at the Inn” which empowers women and children; “Hope” an organization that builds water wells in Africa, so women and girls do not carry water over great distances; and the annual “Katie’s Table” grab bags, whose theme this year is jewelry. We will be asked to assemble and take grab bags to the convention. So, begin preparing your “bag bling” now. In addition to these great opportunities, local WELCA groups are being asked to submit the name and information about organizations serving women and girls for next year’s love offering.
Be sure to check the eWeaver, which is the online Southeast Synod WELCA newsletter. It contains the most up-to-date information about synod WELCA happenings. The website is www.sesynodwelcasisters.com.
St. Mark’s WELCA usually hosts a fall WELCA weekend open to all St. Mark members. The local groups will be working on a theme and activity in the upcoming months. In the meantime, three circles continue to meet monthly – Ruth, Deborah, and Martha Circles.
Ruth Circle meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 10 am at the church. This past month four women were in attendance for bible study and fellowship. Ruth Circle follows the published monthly, Gather Magazine, as a guide to their bible study. The Church office has information about Gather if anyone wants a preview of the Ruth Circle readings.
The Deborah Circle meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 9 a.m. at City Café Diner at Memorial Hwy and Drake Avenue. This circle meets primarily for fellowship and food, but the members are very involved in WELCA activities throughout the year.
Martha Circle meets on the second Thursday of each month at 1 p.m. at the church. This past month seven women met to discuss a chapter in What God Really Thinks About Women by Sharon Jaynes. Each chapter of the book is self-contained so it is easy to follow along for anyone who wants to join. WELCA Circles offer bible study, fellowship and stewardship opportunities throughout the year. Oftentimes during the summer, there is a break from the usual meeting, and circles meet for lunch or other activities. Join us anytime or consider establishing a new circle with friends who have common interests.
