$5 advance sign up available in narthex on Sundays
Dinner begins at 5:30 pm (advance sign up required), followed by a short presentation/devotion from 6-6:20 pm. Following, all are invited to worship at 6:30 pm in the sanctuary. On March 1, all will go to classes as usual, ending early for the 7 pm Ash Wednesday service.
Our first offering discusses the book, Bonhoeffer - Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy by Eric Metaxas. WHO BETTER TO FACE THE GREATEST EVIL OF THE 20TH CENTURY THAN A HUMBLE MAN OF FAITH? As Adolf Hitler and the Nazis seduced a nation, bullied a continent, and attempted to exterminate the Jews of Europe, a small number of dissidents and saboteurs worked to dismantle the Third Reich from the inside. One of these was Dietrich Bonhoeffer—a pastor and author. In this New York Times best-selling biography, Eric Metaxas takes both strands of Bonhoeffer’s life—the theologian and the spy—and draws them together to tell a searing story of incredible moral courage in the face of monstrous evil. (If you would like to purchase the book ahead of time, it is available for ~$13 on Amazon.)
Our second offering is called Luther: Gospel, Law and Reformation. In this class, there will be a DVD presentation followed by discussion, all based on Luther. Martin Luther is the founder of the Protestant Reformation, and as Lutherans there is much we may take for granted. This series of 24 classes, each centered on a 30-minute video presentation by Dr. Philip Cary, will cover Luther’s Augustinian under-pinnings, the terror Luther felt of a just God, his doctrine of justification by faith alone, and the ways Luther worked to make the gospel and indeed the entire Bible accessible to everyone.
Our third offering is a class on Bible Journaling. This class is introductory/exploratory in nature and hands-on. You don’t have to be overly crafty but have an interest in creative ideas and methods. The first class will be a bit of ‘orientation’ to show products and resources, items you may want to have for this class. Following, we will begin looking at specific verses. What is “Bible journaling?” It is basically a great interactive Bible study method that helps you to interact with God’s Word by recording your own thoughts and images on what you’re reading. It is like your own daily devotional that comes straight from the Bible.
