Sunday school isn't just for children. St. Mark's is dedicated to life long learning and continuing our education of theology and our spiritual growth. These groups all meet at 9:45am on Sunday mornings during the Sunday school hour between services. Topics and books change, so check back often for updates.
Faith and Discovery
Philippians: A Message of Joy from Prison. A four week class facilitated by Pastor Soop. Paul had been the mission developer for the congregation in Philippi, and he wrote this letter that abounds with joy and hope while he is suffering for the Gospel in prison. It provides us today with insights and encouragement regarding our life together in Christ. If you plan to attend, please pre-read Philippians (in two different translations). Coordinated by Mike Hamilton.
A diverse class of DVD lessons with varied teachers. This month, join them as they begin The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman. Unhappiness in marriage often has a simple root cause: we speak different love languages: Words of Affirmation, Quality Time, Receiving Gifts, Acts of Service, and Physical Touch. Led by Marlin & Denise Williamson.
Lectionary Bible Study
What is a lectionary? A lectionary is a list of scripture readings assigned to be read on a particular day. This tradition of a lectionary has roots in Jewish worship of long ago and was continued by the early Christians. A three-year cycle beginning in Advent, each year the Gospel of Matthew, Mark or Luke is read primarily with the Gospel of John interspersed throughout. This class will study and discuss the week’s readings used in our Sunday worship. Led by Tom Duncan.
Young Adult Bible Study
Throughout the Lenten season, this class will be taking a look at Max Lucado’s Fearless. Can you imagine your life without fear? Each sunrise seems to bring fresh reasons for fear. But what if faith, not fear, was your default reaction to threats? If you could hover a fear magnet over your heart and extract every last shaving of dread, insecurity, and doubt, what would remain? Join this DVD study and address some of your biggest fears—the solution may be easier than you think. Led by Kathy Emmerson.
